When it comes to growing your hair and improving your overall hair health, there are many products on the market. Unfortunately, many of them come with a high price tag. Luckily, there are some evidence-based hair growth methods you can use right at home instead. While there’s no magical solution to flowing locks overnight, there are plenty of natural remedies that can help stimulate hair growth and improve the overall health of your hair.
Essential Oils:
Rosemary oil has various therapeutic effects, and it is thought to stimulate hair growth. In a clinical trial, rosemary oil was evaluated against minoxidil (a common hair growth treatment). Patients applied 1ml of either solution twice daily at 12-hour intervals to the scalp followed by a gentle massage. Results showed both groups experienced a significant increase in hair count at 6 months. Rosemary oil can be a great alternative to traditional treatments like minoxidil and can be prepared in a variety of ways to make a spray, or it may be diluted in a carrier oil.
Tea tree oil also has beneficial cleansing properties that can help to clarify the scalp and improve hair health. A clinical trial evaluated the use of 5% tea tree oil in shampoo compared to placebo for the treatment of dandruff and found significant improvements in those who used the tea tree oil shampoo. Maintaining a healthy scalp can help to prevent irritation in the hair follicles which can lead to thinner hair.
Massage:
Another cheap and easy hair growth remedy is to massage the scalp, especially when applying oils or hair masks. Various small studies have shown increases in hair thickness with consistent scalp massages. One study showed 68.9% of participants displayed hair regrowth and the stabilization of hair loss.
With any natural remedy, especially for hair growth, it is important to be consistent and patient. The journey to healthy hair can be a long one, but thankfully regrowing your hair doesn’t have to be expensive, especially when leveraging nature’s ingredients.
